BITS Pilani Alumni Association

BITSAA-SVC is a not-for-profit company registered in the Bay Area and has been granted tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)3 of the IRS tax code.

To provide a forum to establish a link between the alumni, staff and students of BITS Pilani.
To enable the alumni to initiate and actively participate in activities which would contribute to the general development of BITS Pilani, its staff and students.
To institute prizes and scholarships, and render financial aid to deserving students of BITS, Pilani.
To keep the alumni abreast of scientific and technological developments of importance.
To organize and enable the networking and interaction on activities of common interest among alumni of BITS Pilani,its associated campuses, and other related activities including distance learning.

This corporation is intended to serve primarily the Alumni of BITS living or working in the Silicon Valley Chapter (SVC) area, generally defined as all California counties north of the Tehachapi Mountains, and including coastal areas to and including Santa Barbara. This corporation will assist other alumni groups in other parts of California and the remainder of the United States in forming corporations similar to this corporation.

BITSAA-SVC is governed by a Board of Directors(BOD) and an executive committee comprising of the President, the Secretary and the Chief Financial Officer. The current serving members are

Chandra Bhople ('74) is Director of Business Development at Osellus Inc., a software product company with offices in USA and Canada. He has worked in USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and India for companies such as Osellus, TechSpan, Sun Microsystems, DEC, Wang and HCL. His expertise is in general management, marketing and sales and has experience of working with customers from various industries such as Manufacturing, Banking & Finance, Telecommunication, Government and Education. For last few years, Chandra has been active in education field in India and abroad. He holds MBA and B E in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani.

Badhri Varanasi (1999A7PS034), is a Senior Software Developer at Oracle USA Inc. He has been actively involved with BITSAA-SVC for three years, organizing alumni reunions and talks on entrepreneurship, among other things. At BITS, Badhri was a core member of the Computer Science Association(CSA), and served as its Second Year Rep(00-01) and 'Co-ord' for APOGEE 2002. He also holds an MS Degree in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While in Madison, he served on the Graduate Admissions Committee.

Sastry is currently working as a Software Engineer at Google Inc. He graduated from BITS, Pilani in 2004 and holds a Master's Degree from Columbia University, New York. Like many, he has an unfulfilled wish from his stay at BITS - to visit the Birla Museum - which he plans to fulfill the next time he visits Pilani. He occasionally shows off his BITS pride by making Fried Paneer Maggi for his non-BITSian friends.

Bhargav is an Applications engineer in the E-Business Suite group at Oracle Corp. USA and is based in the Bay Area. Bhargav has been involved with BITSAA as a moderator of Bits2MsPhd for more than a year now as well as being an active participant in BITSAA Silicon Valley Chapter initiatives. At BITS, Bhargav was a member of the Corroboration and Review Committee (C.R.C.), a member of the Election Commission panel and a member of the Department of Photography. He completed his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University (2008) and his B.E.(Hons.) Mechanical Engineering from BITS, Pilani (2006).

Kartik aka Dolby is a 2002 batch BITSian, currently works as a Design Engineer at ARM, Inc in Silicon Valley. Kartik has been associated with BITSAA Silicon Valley Chapter for nearly two years. He has been actively involved in organizing various BITSAA events in the valley. At BITS, he was a member of the EEE Association and Backstage. Kartik holds a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University (2008) and a B.E.(Hons) Electrical and Electronics degree from BITS Pilani.

Kaushik is currently working at Cypress Semiconductor, San Jose, California as Product Applications Engineer, focusing on new product definition, applications development and technical marketing. He graduated from BITS Pilani in 2006 with Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and Masters in Physics. While at BITS, he was a member of the Corroboration & Review Committee and actively involved in the activities of the Students' Union. He was among the first few students to participate in the Practice School Program in the Silicon Valley and has been working for the BITSAA Silicon Valley Chapter (BITSAA SVC) ever since.
