On March 7, 2004

            BITS Pilani stands tall among the top educational institutions in India. The Silicon Valley chapter of the BITS Pilani Alumni Association (BITSAA-SVC) is holding its annual event at 5:30 PM on March 7, 2004 at the Crowne Plaza Cabana in Palo Alto. The program traditionally draws large numbers of BITSians in the valley to reminisce and relive their Pilani days through video clips, photos, songs and skits – and this year should be no exception. The formal program is followed by dinner and dance.

            “There are about a thousand BITS graduates in the valley serving in leadership roles as technologists/architects, senior engineering managers, venture capitalists and entrepreneurs,” said Jayan Ramankutty, President of BITS Alumni Association, Silicon Valley Chapter. “Just like the previous five years, we expect many of these BITSians to attend the event, meet old friends, renew connections and have a gala time.”

This year’s event marks some important milestones:

§         Achieving 501c3 - public non-profit status for BITSAA-SVC

§         Alumni taking the lead and finishing a major project – BITSConnect

§         5 years since the formal organization of the Silicon Valley Chapter

            The planning for this year started a while back and moved forward in leaps and bounds, thanks to many volunteers. Here are some key highlights:

§         The music program from a great team of singers, whose performance will remind the alumni of the fun music nights. Movies and Music Nights have always been a big part of the cultural life in Pilani, a desert town in Rajasthan.

§         Nostalgic video clips and pictures of the Pilani campus to bring out the flavor of both the new and the historic times.

§         A skit with the theme: local kids select BITS over Stanford for their college education!!

            BITS graduates have made not only key contributions in their professional areas and local communities, but also have carried the banner to make sure BITS Pilani continues to be one of the leading educational institutions in India that provides top education, diverse opportunities and develops global leaders. BITSConnect™ stands as a testimony to these goals. It is a global movement that spans continents, time zones, and cultures to bring together generations of alumni, faculty, students and industry.  Under the BITSConnect umbrella many important projects have been launched and successfully completed.

As usual, much is happening as our Alma matter moves forward in the 21^st century.  Come to the event, meet old friends, make some new ones, and feel the nostalgia of what many feel were the best years of their lives.
